Carer Respite is a non-residential Australian Government outreach program which provides support to Mental Health Carers across the Perth Metropolitan area, by providing them with direct flexible supports and opportunities for respite. We hope to support the health and wellbeing of Mental Health Carers by offering:
Our office is able to offer Carers periodic opportunities for respite, which include 1:1 staff support for their loved ones; in doing so we are able to provide a break from the caring responsibility by engaging the care recipient in a number of enjoyable, stimulating and sometimes challenging activities.
For Carers to be eligible for the service:
The person cared for may be dealing with any kind of mental health difficulty such as: schizophrenia, anxiety, depression, psychosis, eating disorders and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Our 1:1 respite services are brokered through the Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centres; this support is not intended to be ongoing and is only available for a fixed amount of time, but aims to reduce the need for future respite by motivating people, building self-esteem, stimulating their creativity and providing opportunities for them to access appropriate community support facilities and networks.
This service is funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services
